The UPC series features intelligent battery technology, allowing users to monitor and manage the battery’s status directly through the user interface. The UPC-12A boasts a 12.1-inch XGA LCD screen with sunlight-readable 1000 nits screen option. The UPC series are equipped with battery packs providing emergency power when the main power source is not available, eliminating the risks from sudden mains power loss, permitting extremely flexible integration into a wide variety of applications.

The UPC series also provide many expansion interfaces including a standard 32-bit PCI slot for a PCI add-on card, and a PCIe Mini card socket for a PCIe Mini card such as a wireless module. The UPC-12AH includes a sunlight-readable 1000 nits option for high brightness applications such as outdoor ATM machines or military use. All of the UPC series are constructed with rugged die-cast aluminum enclosures. The aluminum enclosures aid in cooling the system, assisting with overall heat dissipation and minimizing the need for fans.

| The UPC series features the high speed Wi-Fi IEEE 802. n protocol which builds on the 802.11 standard by adding multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and 40 MHz operation to the physical (PHY) layer. MIMO uses multiple transmitter and receiver antennas to improve the system performance. The 40 MHz operation uses wider bands, compared to legacy 20 MHz bands, supporting higher data rates. Wider bandwidth channels are cost effective and easily accomplished with moderate increases in digital signal processing. |

The UPC series is equipped with rechargeable "intelligent battery" which can power the UPC-12A for 40 to 60 minutes without any external power supply. This convenient and manageable smart battery backup can be used as a power bank suitable for mobile installations and power protection for critical environments. IEI Technology Corp. (IEI), a global industrial PC innovator, today announced the launch of the PICOe-GM45A half-size CPU card. The PICOe-GM45A is a unique 45 nm Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor platform because it combines both PCI Express (PCIe) and PCI edge connectors on a half-size form factor.
Half-size CPU cards are commonly used in space-restricted industrial computing applications. However, most half-size CPU cards don’t provide simultaneous support for both the PCI Express (PCIe) and PCI communication buses. Supporting only one of these communication buses restricts the expansion options available to system integrators and developers and inhibits their ability to create comprehensive systems. Previously the only solution was to either use a larger form factor CPU card (full-size) and sacrifice space or accept the design limitations and create limited systems that only supported a PCIe or PCI interface exclusively.
